If you choose Yes for "Words adjacent," you can type in the phrase classical antiquity and the system will understand that you want only records that have the word classical NEXT to the word antiquity.

Lowercase letters will find matches of capitalized words also. For example, antiquity will find matches for antiquity, Antiquity and ANTIQUITY.

You may use the Boolean operators AND and OR in your search string. For example, you could type (epigraph? OR inscription?) AND Roman to retrieve all records having epigraph? or inscription? in them, together with the word Roman.

Use the ? character to find matches that contain portions of words. For example, classi? will retrieve classic, classical, classics, classica, classique, etc. In another example, ? ology will retrieve anthropology, archaeology, mythology, chronology, philology, etc. The ? character may also be used to find variant spellings. For example, hon?r will find both the American spelling, honor, and the British spelling, honour. Arch?eology will find both archaeology and archeology.
