Agora Begins Excavation Season

Craig Mauzy

Excavations began in the Athenian Agora on June 8th and will continue until the end of July. Fifty student volunteers from 23 universities and 7 countries are spending the summer in Athens, excavating every day from 7:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

Four areas have been opened, two overlying the building believed to be the Painted Stoa, one to the north, and a fourth in the old excavation area, just south of the Tholos. The chronological span of these areas ranges from the 6th century BC to the 10th century AD.
