School Director Honored in Pylos
Mayor Kafantaris presents Professor Davis with a sculpted olive spray as a token of his appreciation for Davis’s contributions to the community.
ASCSA Director Jack Davis, was made an honorary citizen of Pylos on July 11, 2011. The Mayor of Pylos-Nestoros, Mr. Dimitris Kafantaris, honored Professor Davis for his invaluable archaeological contribution to the area in a lovely ceremony that took place at the Chora Community Center. Mayor Dimitris Kafantaris and Dr. Panayiotis Petropoulos, President of the Municipal Council, presented Professor Davis with a copy of a decree that reads as follows: “The Municipal Council of the Municipality of Pylos-Nestor at its 16th session on the 11th of July met in Chora and, on the recommendation of Mayor Kafantaris and of all its members, voted unanimously to herald as Honorary Citizen of the Municipality of Pylos-Nestor Jack L. Davis, Professor of Greek Archaeology at the University of Cincinnati and holder of the Carl Blegen Chair. It awards this title to the aforementioned Jack L. Davis in order to honor him for his multifaceted contributions over many years to the archaeology of the Municipality of Pylos-Nestor.” The School community congratulates Dr. Davis on this distinction.
