Cotsen Hall

Cotsen Hall, which was inaugurated in 2005 and named for its benefactor who was a great Philhellene and School Trustee, Lloyd Cotsen, serves as the main cultural center and embodies the mission of the American School.

The Hall is a landmarked building designed in modern style in the center of Athens. It is located just 5 minutes away, on foot, from the Evangelismos stationand ten minutes from the underground parking of the War Museum, Cotsen Hall is literally located in the heart of Athens.

It is fully equipped for a wide range of events including lectures, conferences and symposia, to chamber music concerts and theatre performances, and has been recognized as one of the best venues in Athens. Cotsen Hall permits the American School of Classical Studies to build on its outreach to the international community through its seminars, lectures, concerts, and other special programming, most of which are live-streamed by our production team, to the public throughout the world.

Cotsen Hall has an overall capacity of 377 seats in order to accomodate the needs of all cultural and educational programs of the School and also welcomes events organized by distinguished groups and individuals from the world of education, culture, and business. Cotsen Hall also has a two-level lobby that is provided for indoor breaks and reception space for gatherings of up to 200 people. For larger gatherings during most months of the year, the Hall Terrace is available alone or in combination with two additional garden terraces. Tents can extend use of the gardens.

Audiovisual Equipment

Cotsen Hall provides a high-end Audivisual System that can satisfy a wide range of events. In the highlights of our equipment, there is an EPSON Full HD (1920x1200) projector with a special lens that can provide a 7x5 meter screen, a state of the art, filming studio with 3 cameras and BlackMagic ATEM 4k. We can also provide live-streaming to a wide variety of online services through our dedicated fiber optic line. Cotsen Hall also has a dual sound system that is supported by eight speakers spread throughout the auditorium, with built-in amplifiers and digital sound processor and mixing board that are capable of accommodating, a wide range of acoustical requirements including lectures, seminars, conferences, musical performances and theatre peformances.

The Hall has professional Stage lighting which can be programmed to fit the needs of each event, individually. Cotsen Hall also has a public-address system that can be operated either from the control room or the lobby. A variety of microphones, including wireless handheld and lapel are provided. 

A platform elevator is also available to accommodate the needs of lifting heavy objects, including pianos.

Both Windows and Mac OS computers are available to be used with the projection system

            2 x Panasonic V770

            1 x Lumens A60S, with remote control console for PTZ and zoom

Recording in Ultra High Quality, Apple ProRes 422 (BlackMagic)

Wirecast available for livestreaming on any platform including YouTube, Vimeo, etc.
