Student Associate Membership for Returning Members
Those Eligible:
Advanced graduate students who have already spent a year at the American School either as participants in the Regular Program or as Student Associate Members who wish to return to the School to pursue independent research, normally for their Ph.D. dissertations.
Fellowships:
Advanced Fellowships: the Samuel H. Kress Fellowship in art and architecture of antiquity; the Gorham Phillips Stevens Fellowship in the history of architecture; the Ione Mylonas Shear Fellowship in Mycenaean archaeology or Athenian architecture and/or archaeology; the Homer A. and Dorothy B. Thompson Fellowship in the study of pottery; and three Fellowships unrestricted as to field: the Edward Capps, the Doreen Canaday Spitzer, and the Eugene Vanderpool Fellowships. Advanced Fellowships include a stipend of $11,500 plus room, board, and waiver of School fees.
Application:
Consists of an application form, curriculum vitae, transcripts, letters of recommendation and a detailed statement of the project to be pursued in Greece.

Checklist for application:
- Fill in the online PDF application above and save the file with your last name, first initial + the name of the application. e.g., SMITH_M_AdvStudent_Assoc_Member_App. Email the application to application@ascsa.edu.gr. (Note: For speed of processing, you are encouraged to submit electronically, but if you are having difficulty doing this, you may print out the PDF file and send by regular mail to the attention of the Director at the address below.) This application serves as both the application for admission and for advanced fellowships.
- If you are applying for Advanced School Fellowship, review the program material for each fellowship first to learn about the requirements for the application. If required, be prepared to submit a cover sheet, project description, and curriculum vitae. These documents should be scanned as pdfs or in pdf or doc format.
- Obtain one recommendation from the Chair of the Graduate Program of your home institution using the ASCSA recommendation form above. Fill out the the top half of the recommender form and send this PDF to the Chair. Instruct Chair of the Graduate Program to fill out bottom portion of recommender form, attach written letter, and email to application@ascsa.edu.gr. Alternatively, it can be mailed to:
