Fellowships and Grants for Post-Doctoral and Senior Scholars

Please read the bulletin for each fellowship and grant for more detailed information.

Be aware that each fellowship may have a different deadline.

Recommendations are due on the same date as the deadline for applications, unless otherwise noted on the bulletin for the fellowship. Please give your recommenders ample notice ahead of the deadline. After your application is submitted online, your recommenders will automatically be emailed instructions of how to submit their recommendation.  It is also acceptable for recommenders to submit letters directly to the this email address:

*Please note:  The Blegen and Gennadius Libraries may be closed for 6 months starting as early as January 2019. Fellows will have access to other libraries of foreign Schools in Athens but should plan accordingly.



Postdoctoral scholars and professionals in relevant fields including architecture or art who are US citizens or foreign nationals who have lived in the US for the three years immediately preceding the application deadline. Applicants must already hold their PhD or equivalent terminal degree at the time of application. Terms: Two to four fellows will be selected for awards of 4, 5, or 9 months duration. The monthly stipend per fellow is $4,200 allocated from a total pool of $75,600 per year. Applicants should indicate their preference for the length and dates of tenure of the award to coincide with the American School's academic year: 9 months, Sept. 2019-beginning of June 2020; 4 months, Sept. - Dec.; 5 months, January to the beginning of June. School fees are waived.

For scholars associated with an ASCSA directed or affiliated project to conduct question-driven research at the Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Science at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. A project proposal is welcomed from anyone affiliated with any ASCSA archaeological project, but a specific candidate for the fellowship must be named in the application, the principal investigator, who has received their PhD and has a demonstrable record of research and publication directly relevant to the project. Stipend of $35,000 for 12 months, for a total of 36 months. School fees included.
