  • From the Field Jenifer Neils, the Elsie B. Smith Professor in the Liberal Arts in the Department of Classics at Case Western Reserve University, is the new Director of the American School, beginning July 2017. An internationally renowned scholar in classics and art history, her work on the Parthenon has earned her the reputation as one of the world’s most established authorities on the monument. Fellowships and Grants for Post-Doctoral and Senior Scholars

Be aware that each fellowship may have a different deadline.

*Please note:  The Blegen and Gennadius Libraries may be closed for 6 months starting as early as January 2019. Fellows will have access to other libraries of foreign Schools in Athens but should plan accordingly.
 

KRESS PUBLICATIONS FELLOWSHIPS

For senior (post-doctoral) scholars working on a publication assignment from Corinth, Agora, Lerna or from an affiliated project of the School. Preference will be given to those working on a Corinth, Agora, or Lerna excavation volume and to those applicants who have not previously received the Kress Publications Fellowship. Applications from current staff of the School are not eligible. The School awards up to three grants each year. Stipends are for a minimum of three months (up to $10,000) to a maximum of nine months (up to $30,000) during the ASCSA fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).

NEH FELLOWSHIPS

Postdoctoral scholars and professionals in relevant fields including architecture or art who are US citizens or foreign nationals who have lived in the US for the three years immediately preceding the application deadline. Applicants must already hold their PhD or equivalent terminal degree at the time of application. Terms: Two to four fellowships, five to ten months in duration. Maximum stipend for a five-month project, $21,000; for a ten-month project, $42,000.  School fees are waived.

WIENER LABORATORY PROGRAMMATIC POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP 2018-2021

For scholars associated with an ASCSA directed or affiliated project to conduct question-driven research at the Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Science at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. A project proposal is welcomed from anyone affiliated with any ASCSA archaeological project, but a specific candidate for the fellowship must be named in the application, the principal investigator, who has received their PhD and has a demonstrable record of research and publication directly relevant to the project. Stipend of $35,000 for 12 months, for a total of 36 months. School fees included.
