William Bell Dinsmoor Family Papers

The William Bell Dinsmoor Family Papers were donated to the American School of Classical Studies at Athens by William B. Dinsmoor, Jr., in 1978. It is a medium size collection (12,5 linear meters). The majority of the collection contains the papers and drawings of William Bell Dinsmoor (1886-1973), renowned architect and author of The Architecture of Ancient Greece (1950). Of interest are the letters of Zillah Pierce Dinsmoor (1886-1960), wife of William Bell Dinsmoor, to her mother because they reveal a great deal about life in Athens and the American School during the early part of the 20th century. Finally, the collection contains a small part of William B. Dinsmoor, Jr. (1923-1988), papers, also an architect and author of The Propylaia to the Athenian Akropolis I: The Predecessors .
