Opening up private and religious libraries to scholarship
March 20, 2017 9.00am
Consortium of European Research Libraries, Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation,Gennadius Library of the ASCSA
The international conference, which will take place in Athens on 20-21 March 2017, focuses on the subject of Greek libraries, their management, the promotion of their collaboration, and the integration of their resources. It is co-organised by the Consortium of European Research Libraries (CERL), the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation (IAL), and the Gennadius Library of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. CERL representatives of several European libraries will also be attending the event.
The conference will be divided into two parts:
On Monday 20th March, the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation will host an open conference, showcasing a large number of public institutions, private foundations, libraries and universities, with the aim to open up a dialogue among Greek libraries and promote better communication, exchange of ideas and projects, and future collaboration.
On the morning of Tuesday 21st March, the Gennadius Library will host a workshop, with Greek and international specialists, specifically designed to answer the needs of Greek librarians (but open to anyone interested). It will offer an extremely useful ‘crash-course’ on a number of crucial issues that affect Greek libraries, particularly those with scarce funding: basic measures for theft security, emergency pest prevention, conservation, training and cataloguing techniques, and, finally, small funding opportunities for libraries, as well as models of sharing digital data and metadata. The workshop will be followed by a discussion, so that all those attending will have a chance to ask questions.
The conferece will be Live-Streamed. Please click HERE to watch.
There will be simultaneous translation into English/Greek. Certificates of attendance will be provided.
