Exhibition on the Art of Schoolbooks (1860-1960)


Τreasures from the children’s books collection of the Gennadius Library and material from the Library’s Archives were included in the exhibition AUTHORS AND ARTISTS OF SCHOOLBOOKS (1860-1960) organized by the Educational Foundation of the National Bank of Greece and the Society for the Study of Modern Greek Culture and General Education at the Megaron Eynardou, 20 Ag. Konstantinou Street. The exhibition was on view from January 13 to March 14 March 2010. The materials lent by the Gennadius Library were alphavitaria (school reading books) printed in 1893, 1925 and 1938, a critical note of Galateia Kazantzaki from the Kostas Varnalis Archive, as well as the books Ellinopoula by Pavlos Nirvanas (1943), The Razaki Grape by Andreas Karkavitsas (1933), The Megali Hellas by Galateia Kazantzaki (1914), The Good Road of Grigorios Xenopoulos (1933), The Tall Mountains of Zacharias Papantoniou (1919) and the volume Our homeland: The Ancient and New Period by Andreas Karkavitsas and E. Papamichail (1919).
