WASHINGTON – On Thursday, March 22, 2018, the Chairman of our Board of Trustees, Alex Zagoreos and our Executive Director George T. Orfanakos were invited to represent the American School of Classical Studies at Athens at a reception honoring Greek Independence Day at the White House. This was the 31st annual reception for the Greek American Community and a privilege to be included among the list of honored guests at this private reception.

President Donald J. Trump, joined on stage with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, spoke about the common ideals and values of Greece and United States and the “profound influence of Greek culture, art, and philosophy.” Immediately following addresses by the President and the Archbishop, President Trump signed the Presidential Proclamation in honor of Greek Independence Day.

The reception, which began at 5 pm was attended by Greek American government, business, and philanthropic leaders and it was an honor for the American School of Classical Studies at Athens to have been included.
