Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory bench fees

Effective July 1, 2016, for all research projects at the Wiener Laboratory, excluding Wiener Laboratory Fellowships, Associateships and Wiener Laboratory funded projects, a bench fee is required. The bench fee is levied to cover the additional costs related to basic consumables, equipment and materials not included in the School Fees and Expenses. Different rates apply to students, faculty, and graduates of Cooperating Institutions of the ASCSA than those from non-affiliated institutions*.

Important: The lab does not provide services for commercial visitors.

(*10% discount for Senior members affiliated with a Cooperating Institution and 20% discount for Student members affiliated with a Cooperating Institution.)

In the recognition of the fact that different research activities in the WL incur different costs, bench fees are charged at different rates as detailed below:

1. Long-term projects on per annum basis (for projects less than a year in duration fees are prorated per month)

     Band C: $900 per annum for use of light microscopes and chemistry lab (consumables are not included) as well as for bone and botanical identification and needing table space.

     Band B: $1800 per annum for using all other instrumental facilities of the lab excluding SEM/EDS (some consumables are included such as KBr powder, distilled water, acetone, peroxide, basic conservation material etc.).

     Band A: $3000 per annum (or above when appropriate) for using all facilities of the lab with a major component the utilization of SEM/EDS (basic consumables are included such as those related to coating, tungsten filaments, KBr powder etc.).

2. Occasional instrumental-based analysis on an hourly basis
      A. For SEM/EDS Usage
         A.1. For SEM Usage: $50 per two hour session
         A.2. For SEM/EDS Usage: $70 per two hour session
         The charges cover all costs associated with the SEM (e.g. coating), but excludes sample preparation etc. Training is provided on request with the same fees.

     B. For FTIR Usage
         $20 per two hour session. Training is provided on request at $50 per two hour session.

     C. Portable XRF
          C.1. $20 per two hour session in house. Training is provided on request at $50 per two hour session.
          C.2. $200 per day usage in the field with prior approval of the director (users need to supply their own computer), plus service charges as needed with extended use.

     D. For 3D Laser Scanner Usage
          D.1. $10 per two hour session in house. Training is provided on request at $50 per two hour session.
          D.2. $100 per day usage in the field with prior approval of the director (users need to have their own computer).
