Donors aged 70 ½ or older may make gifts directly from their IRA and avoid taxation on the distribution. The maximum amount a donor may transfer in any calendar year is $100,000.  A couple may contribute up to $200,000 in any calendar year, each contributing $100,000 from their respective IRA.The gift must be transferred directly from the IRA account by the IRA administrator to the School.  For any questions about tax-free rollovers, please consult your IRA administrator. In addition, please contact the Development Office at 609-683-0080 or info@ascsa.org to alert us of your generous gift so we may be able to acknowledge it appropriately.

Bequests

For many alumni/ae and friends of the School, a charitable bequest is the easiest way to make a gift to the School.  Giving by bequest costs nothing now, but you may derive enormous satisfaction from knowing that the School will benefit from your bequest in the future.  In your will, revocable trust or other estate plan, you can name the School as the beneficiary of a portion of your estate, or of particular assets in your estate.  Here is sample language for a bequest:

“I give ( _____ dollars or _____ percent of the residue of my estate or _____ particular asset) to the Trustees of the American School of Classical Studies, tax id # 13-5658824,a Massachusetts charitable corporation with offices in Princeton, New Jersey as permanent endowment (for its general purposes or for a particular program or department of the School).”

The Edward Capps Society

Individuals who have included the School in their estate plans are eligible for membership in the School’s Edward Capps Society.

Other Assets You Can Give

In addition to cash and securities, you can give real estate (including the remainder interest in your residence after your death) and tangible personal property.  You can also designate the School as the beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy.  For any questions about such gifts, please consult our Development Office.
