Virginia R. Grace Papers
Scope and Content
The Virginia R. Grace Papers contain her Amphoras Project (i.e., thousands of catalogue cards with information about stamped amphora handles throughout the Mediterranean), her personal papers (i.e., professional correspondence, and work notes), as well as her personal library. The latter is extremely valuable, since it includes rare offprints which had been sent personally to Virginia Grace by their authors. For the Amphoras Project, see also

Tania Panagou, who catalogued Virginia Grace’s personal papers, respected their original order as much as this was possible. The on-line catalogue presents the contents of her personal papers on the folder level. The majority of the titles on the folders follow Virginia Grace’s labeling system. Researchers working on stamped amphora handles and other aspects of the Aegean wine trade during the Late Classical and Hellenistic periods are welcome to consult her papers with the permission of the American School’s Archivist.
