Born in Athens, Greece, Michalis Sourvinos performed as a soloist in multiple orchestras in Greece and with international ensembles all over the world. He was awarded with the First Prize at the “Volos International Guitar Festival” in 1997, the First Prize at the 9th “Las Palmas Guitar Festival (Canary Islands - Spain) in 1998, the First Prize with the “Classical Mandolin Orchestra of Athens” at the 5th International Competition at Julich – Koslar (Germany) in 1998 and the Third Prize with “Romido Cuerda Quartet” at the International Guitar Competition at Osnabruck of Germany in 2004. He took part in various TV shows and has been a committee member at numerous International Guitar Competitions. He teaches Guitar and Mandolin at the Piraeus Municipal Conservatory, the Hellenic Conservatory, the Zografou Municipal Conservatory, the Central Conservatory of Athens and at the Contemporary Conservatory of Athens. Several of his students have been awarded in Classical Guitar Competitions. He is a founding member of “Athens Plucked Strings Ensemble ”. He will play works from Vivaldi, Tarrega, Albeniz, Mozart, Ramirez, Piazzolla, Dyens, and some of his own compositions.
