ASCSA Member Named AIA’s Gold Medal Recipient for 2013
Once again, an ASCSA member was recognized by the Archaeological Institute of America when last week it announced that Jeremy Bentham Rutter will receive its Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement in Archaeology. Rutter will become the 25th member of ASCSA to receive the award and the 14th Aegean prehistorian.
Since 1965 when the AIA bestowed its first Gold Medal on Carl W. Blegen, only 54 individuals have been awarded the honor. Rutter has devoted most of his academic career to excavations of prehistoric Greek sites in Greece, where he is well-known for his masterful studies of Minoan and Mycenaean pottery as well as for his generosity and kindness toward younger colleagues and students. Rutter will receive the award when AIA members meet in Seattle in January 2013.
