Gang Wu

Cotsen Travel Fellow at the Gennadius Library

Dr. Gang Wu is an assistant professor of Byzantine Studies in the Department of History at Fudan University. He is a historian by training and received his degrees from Xiamen University (BA 2013), Nankai University (MA 2016) and King’s College London (PhD 2020). He was a postdoctoral fellow at Koç University’s Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (ANAMED) from 2020 to 2021, and had spent periods of study at the University of Athens (2014-2015) and Dumbarton Oaks (Summer 2018).

Dr. Wu’s research focuses on Byzantine women and the silk industry, with a keen interest in the region of Greece. At the School, he will explore the silk trading network in middle-Byzantine Central Greece, utilizing the extensive specialist collections on Byzantine Greece at the Gennadius Library.
