About Simone Agrimonti

Simone Agrimonti (Ph.D. University of Cincinnati) is the Assistant Director of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. As a historian of Classical and Hellenistic Greece, he particularly focuses on Hellenistic poleis, their institutions, and the epigraphic documents they produced. His main research project investigates inscriptions from Hellenistic Messenia and their ideological impact on the political life of local poleis.

Simone’s other research projects focus on 4th century Athens, exploring the social dynamics of mercenary service (as attested in the comedies of Menander) and the works of Xenophon as evidence for ancient religious beliefs. Simone has participated in excavation projects at Pylos and Corinth. At the School, he was a Summer Session student (2015) and then a Regular Member (2017-2018).
