Research Topic: Written in Clay: A Material Study of Linear B Documents from Crete

Giulia is a PhD candidate in Aegean Prehistory at the University of Cincinnati. Her research adopts a multidisciplinary approach to the study of Linear B tablets, integrating archaeological, textual, and scientific methods. Her dissertation focuses on the Linear B tablets from the West Central Insula at the Palace of Knossos, with particular emphasis on religion, administrative practices, and the archaeological context of the documents. She has participated in several archaeological excavations and research projects, including the Palace of Nestor at Pylos, the Palace of Kydonia at Chania, and the KLASP Project at Knossos.

As a Wiener Laboratory Fellow, she is conducting a project entitled "Written in Clay: A Material Study of Linear B Documents from Crete". The project investigates the Linear B tablets and sealings from Knossos and Chania as archaeological artifacts, combining clay fabric analysis (Dino-Lite microscopy and portable X-ray fluorescence) with textual and archaeological evidence to illuminate tablet manufacture, administrative practices, and the production, circulation, and storage of administrative documents.
