CONSTANTINE AND GEORGE MACRICOSTAS FELLOWSHIP AT THE GENNADIUS LIBRARY
Academic Year Fellowship
For Ph.D. students and recent Ph.D.s (within the last 5 years), of any nationality, for work in the Gennadius Library for the full academic year. Research must focus on the historical, political, and sociological dimensions of Eastern Orthodox religion from Late Antiquity to the present are eligible. The fields of study may include, but are not limited to religious studies, anthropology, history, philosophy, politics, law, and sociology. Stipend of $11,500 plus room and board at Loring Hall, and waiver of School fees.

COTSEN TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP
Short-term Fellowship
Short-term travel award of $2,000 for senior scholars and graduate students for projects and research at the Gennadius Library. At least one month of residency required. School fees are waived.

HARRY BIKAKIS FELLOWSHIP
Up to an academic year of membership fees waived
North American or Greek graduate students researching ancient Greek law or Greek graduate students working on a School excavation. Stipend of $1,875. School fees are waived either for the duration of the field project or for the academic year during which the fellow is carrying out research at the ASCSA.

KATHRYN AND PETER YATRAKIS FELLOWSHIP
Academic Year Fellowship
Ph.D. students and recent Ph.D.s (within the last 5 years), of any nationality, for work in the Gennadius Library for the full academic year. Stipend of $11,500 plus room and board at Loring Hall, and waiver of School fees.

M. ALISON FRANTZ FELLOWSHIP IN POST-CLASSICAL STUDIES AT THE GENNADIUS LIBRARY
Academic Year Fellowship
Ph.D. students and recent Ph.D.s (within the last 5 years) from colleges or universities in the U.S. or Canada regardless of nationality, for work in the Gennadius Library for the full academic year. A stipend of $11,500 plus room and board at Loring Hall, and waiver of School fees.

M. H. WIENER ANNUAL FELLOWSHIP FOR ARCHAEOLOGICAL SCIENCE
Short-term or Academic Year Fellowship
Short-term funding for individuals actively enrolled in a graduate program and individuals with a Masters or Doctorate in a relevant discipline. Independent scholars are also welcome to apply. Open to all nationalities. Variable amounts up to $7,000. Term variable, up to nine months.

WIENER LABORATORY PRE-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP 2027-2029
Academic Year Fellowship, for two years
Two-year funding for individuals actively enrolled in a graduate program who have passed all qualifying exams and have an approved Ph.D. proposal pursuing archaeological research related to the ancient Greek world at the Wiener Laboratory. Stipend of $20,000 per year.

WIENER LABORATORY POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP 2026-2029
Academic Year Fellowship, for three years
Three-year funding for individuals who have received their Ph.D. within the last seven (7) years pursuing archaeological research related to the ancient Greek world at the Wiener Laboratory. Stipend of $35,000 per year.

WIENER LABORATORY POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP 2027-2030
Academic Year Fellowship, for three years
Three-year funding for individuals who have received their Ph.D. within the last seven (7) years pursuing archaeological research related to the ancient Greek world at the Wiener Laboratory. Stipend of $35,000 each academic year. Fellow pays room and board.

ZOË SARBANES PAPPAS SENIOR FELLOWSHIP IN THE STUDY OF MEDIEVAL THROUGH MODERN GREECE AT THE GENNADIUS LIBRARY
Academic Year Fellowship
For Ph.D holders working in any area related to the study of Greece in the Medieval through Modern periods for a project that benefits from the use of the Gennadius Library, and/or School Archives, or other related sources. Applicants should hold the rank of Associate Professor (or equivalent) or higher and possess a significant record of publication and teaching. Open to all nationalities and any university. Stipend of $45,000, waiver of School membership fees, round-trip coach airfare to Athens, and lunches at Loring Hall (Monday through Friday) for the fellow. An additional $2,500 is available for the fellow to use in developing and presenting contributions to the academic life of the Library.

Six-week intensive introduction to Greece from antiquity through the modern period. The program provides the most extensive exposure to Greece, ancient and modern, for participants with interests in Classics and related fields. A strong academic component with participants researching and presenting topics on site. Offers unique opportunities to interact with eminent archaeologists in the field.

Fellowships Available
Eighteen-day sessions designed for those who wish to study specific topics in Greece and visit major monuments with exceptional scholars as study leaders, and to improve their understanding of the country’s landscape, history, literature, and culture. Choose one, or both(!), seminars - seminar topics change every summer.
The 2026 Seminars are:
Landscape with Figures: Human-Environment Interaction in Premodern Greece (June 15 to July 3, 2026), led by Professor Irene Polinskaya (King’s College London)
Chalkidike Peninsula: From Hellenic Colonization to Byzantium (July 9 to July 27, 2026), led by Professors Amalia Avramidou (Democritus University of Thrace) and Amelia R. Brown (Australian Research Council Senior Researcher, Honorary Senior Research Fellow, Macquarie University)
Agora Excavation Volunteer Program
Weekly Stipend and Housing Provided, if accepted
The American School of Classical Studies at Athens conducts a program for volunteers wishing to participate in the archaeological excavations of the Athenian Agora during the summer. Approximately fifteen to twenty-five volunteers are chosen on the basis of academic qualifications and previous archaeological field experience. Both advanced undergraduate students and graduate students are eligible, although priority is given to graduate students preparing for careers in classical archaeology. Open to all nationalities.

Texts, Manuscripts, Editions: Greek Palaeography, the Transmission of Texts, and Textual Criticism
2025/2026 Winter-term (November through January) Hybrid, non-credit seminar, with the generous support of Dumbarton Oaks.
This new course is an introduction to post-classical Greek book culture (4th – 16th c. CE), the study of Greek literary scripts from Late Antiquity to the Renaissance, the transmission history of Greek texts, and the theories and techniques of textual criticism.

Registered students will be involved in interdisciplinary field research in the Athenian Agora primarily focused on archaeological context, geoarchaeology, and material sciences. Through field observations, laboratory analysis, and lectures, students will receive instruction in the study and analysis of archaeological sediments and deposits, as well as gain experience in the recording of stratigraphy and the understanding of site formation processes.

An intensive week-long course in Archaeological Micromorphology is offered by the Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Science. Dr. Panagiotis (Takis) Karkanas, Director of the Wiener Laboratory, and Dr. Paul Goldberg, Senior Visiting Professor, Institut für Naturwissenschaftliche Archäologie (INA), University of Tübingen, will lead the course. The program will primarily focus on deciphering site formation processes and micro-stratigraphy.
