ABSTRACT:

The present article studies the inscribers of the dramatic festival inscriptions of Athens, namely IG II2 2318-2325 and related pieces. It redates or provides more accurate dates for a number of these texts. Most significantly, it demonstrates that the generally accepted date of the Fasti (IG II2 2318) is not correct and that the group of inscriptions known as the Didascaliae have not been adequately understood. The article distinguishes the hands of the inscribers and delineates the major phases of the inscribing of these important documents.
