Summary: Manuscript of poem ‘Τα κεριά’ [The Candles] by  Constantine Cavafy, with handwritten dedication to Alec Scouffi. The manuscript has been enclosed in a folder entitled Κ. Π. Καβάφη Ποιήματα  Αλεξάνδρεια  1912-1919. Enclosed are also the following: 1. Two additional handwritten pages (in Cavafy's’ handwriting) with the titles of 16 of his poems, and notes about their publication. 2. Copy of the journal  ‘Σκέψη’  Αρ. 2. Χρόνος Α’. Μάρτιος 1921. Front cover and first page missing.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE - ΒΙΟΓΡΑΦΙΚΟ ΣΗΜΕΙΩΜΑ

Born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1886 and died in Paris in 1932. Opera singer, poet and novelist. He moved to Paris from Alexandria around 1920. He published poetry collections, novels, and a biography of the singer Caruso. He was murdered in Rue de Rome in Paris in 1932.
