Concerts, Theatrical Plays, Films

For the past five years with the generous support of the Schwarz Foundation and the Nina von Maltzahn Global Touring Initiative, the Gennadius Library had hosted concerts of classical music by the young musicians of Curtis-on-Tour. The Curtis Institute of Music of Philadelphia is one of the best music academies in the world and one of its philosophies is that its talented students learn by performing all over the world. Four concerts take place during the month of September and allow the Library to engage with a large crowd of music lovers who flock into Cotsen Hall to enjoy the music. Several other concerts of classical, pre-classical or traditional music are occasionally held at the auditorium. Several are available in our video archive of events.

Theatrical plays, of which the Library has sponsored three in relation to the Stratis Myrivilis Archives (see a dramatization of his Song of the Earth), as well as films are significant activities that bring an eager and different audience to Cotsen Hall. One of the events that filled the auditorium was the first screening in Greece of the restored documentary film With the Greeks in the Firing Line (1913) with historical commentary by Dr. Vassiliki Tsitsopoulou of Indiana University.
