Effective July 1, 2016, for all research projects at the Wiener Laboratory, excluding Wiener Laboratory Fellowships, Associateships and Wiener Laboratory funded projects, a bench fee is required. The bench fee is levied to cover the additional costs related to basic consumables, equipment and materials not included in the School Fees and Expenses. Different rates apply to students, faculty, and graduates of Cooperating Institutions of the ASCSA than those from non-affiliated institutions.
Important: The lab does not provide services for commercial visitors.
At all the rates described below, a 50% discount for Senior members affiliated with a Cooperating Institution, a 75% discount for Student members affiliated with a Cooperating Institution and a 40% discount for Student members not affiliated with a Cooperating Institution are applied:
1. $75 per month for use of light microscopes and chemistry lab (consumables are not included), as well as for bone and botanical identification and needing table space.
2. Occasional instrumental-based analysis on an hourly basis:
A. For SEM/EDS Usage
A.1. For SEM Usage: $50 per two hour session
A.2. For SEM/EDS Usage: $70 per two hour session
The charges cover all costs associated with the SEM (e.g. coating), but excludes sample preparation etc. Training is provided on request with the same fees.
B. For FTIR Usage
$20 per two hour session. Training is provided on request at $50 per two hour session.
C. For Portable XRF Usage
C.1. $20 per two hour session in house. Training is provided on request at $50 per two hour session.
C.2. $200 per day usage in the field with prior approval of the director (users need to supply their own computer), plus service charges as needed with extended use.
D. For 3D Laser Scanner Usage
D.1. $10 per two hour session in house. Training is provided on request at $50 per two hour session.
D.2. $100 per day usage in the field with prior approval of the director (users need to have their own computer).
Note: Bench fees for Wiener Laboratory Fellows and Research Associates are waived for the duration of their tenure. Instrument use will be determined following consultation with the Laboratory Director, based on the needs of the project.
